Default Max RPM for stock bottom end???

I have a 2000 LS1 that has H/C/I/E, but stock bottom end. My rev limiter is set at 6200 rpm right now. I read that some people are turning as much as 6600 on stock bottom end LS1's. I am going to get my car re-tuned soon and I was hoping that higher rpm would benefit my 228R cam. What would you set the rev limiter at? This is an LS1/A4 with 3600 stall.

I have a similar cam and mine has 6600 rpm limit...you are probably giving up at least 10hp by only spinning to 6200rpm...you don't need rod bolts unless you wanna go 7k rpm and up...These LS motors are rock solid below 7k (they go higher with more $)

Yeah, 6500-6600 should be fine, I have mine set at 6500.

I spun my max effort stock bottom end car to beyond 7000rpm for a long time, but this is definitely not recommended unless your setup requires it, and at that point you probably know the risk your taking spinning one that hard.

I think the 228R will like it so I'm going to spin it to 6600.

Shift it at 6500-6600 and set the limiter at 6800.

I like Aaron have turned mine 7200-7400rpm many times. I didn't see any gain in MPH at the track with turning it 7400rpm so I only turned it 7000-7200. I do have Katech rod bolts and a cam that really requires it though(239/247 .624/.624 110+0) so for most of the members here it's not necessary and the stock style intakes don't make peak power past 6800rpm anyways. How far it carries it past peak is another story though.

This is how I have mine setup and no issues so far.

On my old setup, Stock bottom end but with arp rod bolts, I was shifting at 7500-7700. New setup, 7900 but it's forged. Motor never let go though, 100's of passes and street driving like I stole it. Saw 7500 every day for at least 2 years.

i like this guy^^^^^

i turned 7k all the time with my stock bottom end. i didnt care if it blew a rod out the side though. it wasnt my daily driver and i wanted to build a motor anyways. you never know though. it could cut loose cruising down the road. parts break...**** happens.

With the stock rod bolts, I have my limiter set at 7000rpm. But I shift it at 6500rpm. I have bounced off the limiter on accident a few times without incident.

Tighten the limiter up to 6800 or 6850.

I always suggest 300-500 higher on the limiter than the shift point, but with stock bolts I'd be squeamish about hitting 7 grand.

We have had my wifes car shifting about 6600-6700rpm without an issue on a 150shot for the past 4 years. Popped the 6900 limiter a couple times on the street too. We have a red spring pump in it and the Tick Polluter cam other than that its a completely stock 141K mile bottom end.

1st gear set it at 6800

2nd set it at 6700

3rd and 4th set it at 6550

keep your rev limiter 5-600 over every shift point that way u wont bump into it especially if using a smaller tire on the track

What RPM would be ideal for the TSP 228R?

I like the performance and she loves the sound. We took a 224 out and put this in when she stopped commuting over 100 miles a day to work and has been in it ever since. Has good mid range and top end on motor and loves the nitrous too.
