Default Quick question on oil pump install...?

So I hear it's good practice to center the oil pump on the drive gear/crank gear instead of just bolting it up,
whats the method on this...?....use 2 sets of feeler gauges? just measure the clearance between OP drive gear and crankgear.?
I've got my Lq9 torn down ready for timing set/oil pump..and was wanting to measure the stock clearance before I removed old one to have something to compare to....thanks

Your going to install the pump, loosely. Remove the cover of the pump, put .002 feeler gauges on either side of the large gear, torque pump to block bolts.

Remove the feeler gauges and re install the oil pump cover.
