Default Futral Motorsports Cam

What does everyone know about Futral Motorsports cams? I have tried to search them but it doesn't really come up with too much info. I was looking at the F14 cam and it seems to make good power and isn't too big of a cam. This will be going into a daily driver car.

Also, What would make this cam better than any other vendors cam? I understand about custom spec cams and they are great but it is hard to figure out a cam spec when I do not know what the end result of my cars "build" will be.

Just wondering on your guys' opinions on these cams and if there are some that compare closely I'd like to hear about them. And as always experience with these cams would be appreciated!

Thanks!
-Michael

What kind of numbers are they putting down? Is it a streetable cam? Like I said it's my dd so minimal surging is needed.

in a F-body with full bolt-ons probably between 400-415 RWHP...The drivability all comes down to tune. I DD my 99 with a TRex on occasion, street tuned for drivability and dialed in on the dyno. That is a giant max effort cam and is pretty tame and predictable with my tune. I would also consider 3.90s or 4.10s out back as well.

Do you have a 6spd or Auto? If an auto you will definitely need a stall converter and some gears...

It is normal for Comp cam camshafts to deviate +/- 2°, with many fluctuating 3-4°!!!! A great many are 4° or more out of spec. Most of them now are made in Mexico. I have seen two that were actually BENT!!!!!

Their customer service is terrible. Used to be a sponser on here.

Lets not mention some of their terrible products. I lucked out on my EPS cam-right on the money spec wise. Others have not been so lucky. Do some reading up on them...

It's a M6. I was thinking of doing gears as well. Sounds to me that if you are driving a T-rex cam then a tune is really all that matters, because that's a bigass cam! Sounds to me like I'll have to find a decent tuner in my area.

If it's an m6, go the F13. Or bigger :-)

^^haha. Sounds good to me. I'm really diggin the F14 but I always find myself going back to the TSP 233/239 cam... Anyone have any insight on how these two will compare? I would assume similar.. Thanks!

Futral, Vinci and Isky are my favorite 3 cam grinders... Lingenfelter and Texas speed have some nice specs, however, like it was said above Comp doesn't have the best track record.

Aren't Comp blanks made with steel from China?

I know Futral doesn't use Comp blanks. They use billet blanks from Cam Motion.

Im pretty sure texas speed uses comp for their grinds. Ive had a couple different comp cams, one lt1 and a few ls1s and have never had a problem.

My dad has the t rex in his 01 z28, auto with 4.10s and its perfectly streetable. Theres not really any issues with it at all as far as drivability goes. Just get the vacuum pump so your brakes have enough vacuum.

Ive had the 233/239 tsp cam in a 5.3l and it was perfectly dd worthy as well. I have a video of it doing a lap on the autox track As well as it idling in my thread.

I'd like to keep my power down low with a broad powerband. It is a street car and I know I CAN daily drive really anything.. I don't want to flycut either. That's why I felt the F14 or the TSP cam would be the best choice but if there's quite a few of you that have problems with Comp then I'd rather not use them because this is what get's me to work and stuff so it needs to be decently reliable as well. hmm... Decisions decisions...Thanks for all the info!

Compare the quantity of cams sold by each company...I would imagine Comp surpasses most companies in sales. Just because they've had a few defects does not pertain to the ENTIRETY of the company. Let's talk about the MILLIONS of successful units Comp has produced. If companies like Texas Speed thought it was a liability to carry Comp, they wouldn't do it. I don't think you can go wrong with the FM14, but don't steer away from other possibilities..

I don't think I could have said this a better way myself. Comp does grind our camshafts, and we are definitely happy with them.

Which cam will make more power between the F14 and the TSP 233/239? I hope that question isn't like asking "which was first, chicken or the egg?" ha!
