Default Need advice on which route to go... Cam, Nitrous, Heads, etc.

Hello everyone,

I will try to explain my situation the best I can and hopefully you guys can help me from there.

So, the 2000 LS1 is in a 94' Rx-7 with the following mods already in place...

Mid length headers, full 3.5 inch exhaust
Intake
Ls6 intake mani
OEM 5.3 heads for compression? Already on the motor when I bought it
Stock cam
Stage 3 clutch, fidanza flywheel
~75k miles on motor. No oil burning or problems I am aware of

I am trying to decide what I should buy next for my final goal of 410-450 or so hp on motor only. Nitrous is a definite possibility but I that will be later down the road.

I don't have tons to spend... I was thinking MS3 cam and supports with TSP mail tune until I can get heads but I dont know if I will run into clearance issues on the heads. Don't really have the money to blow on TSP heads at the moment.

The bottle line is I don't really want to spend more than $1,100 at the moment because I am still doing payments on the car. I am asking for a modding plan from you guys and recommendations on the first mod I should make fitting that budget and the final goal. Please give me your honest opinions...Thank you

Save your money. By the time you buy a cam kit, add fluids gaskets, bolts etc and youre over $1100 and those mid length headers are gonna hold you back.

To me nitrous is a no go. Just not a fan of it so Ill leave my .02 out.

I'd watch the classifieds. A lot of guys on here buy cams and decide to go another route. Let them go a few dollars cheaper than new and the cam never came out the box. I got my eps cam for 350 shipped. Not much cheaper than new but every little bit helps. I did this and just stock piled these parts until I had every thing needed for my cam swap. Found my psi 1511ml valve springs. New never used. Think I gave 180 shipped for them. Saved a few bucks here and their. Just gotta be patient and wait but keep your eyes on the classifieds. Some of this stuff goes fast.

I have been doing that, its much cheaper it seems. I can pick up a MS3 cam for 225 dollars with ~8k miles on it.

And what kind of a cam would work with my headers? MS3 wouldn't? I will get long tubes eventually by the way.

the ms3 will def not be near its prime without those longtubes.

you really should put this money towards all your supporting mods first. hell even a used fast intake would be a big help for you now.

Call Texas Speed for everything you need. Cam, push rods, springs, T-chain
and gaskets. Here's the cam I'd consider running for your combo....

Just wondering, Why would you recommend this one? The car is not daily driven and to brutally honest I want a nasty idle haha. I have the option to get a MS3 cam for only 200 dollars, TSP LS6 oil pump for 75, and a Katech timing chain for cheap as well.

That would leave me with springs, rods, and gaskets etc..

I feel like if I get the 228 I will quickly be out looking around for a bigger one shortly after the install.
