Default Trickflow As Cast 220cc / VRX5 / Forged 347 Build

In my previous thread, I found that my previous build resulted in a failed lifter and destroyed cam, so under the knife the LS1 is going again...

This time around, a very reputable shop around here is putting together a nice setup for me. I'm about 90% done collecting the parts. Here is the setup.

- Lunati Forged H-Beam Rods
- Wiseco -2.2cc flat top Forged Pistons
- Polished Stock Crank
- Morel 5206 Link Bar Lifters
- ARP Cam Bolts / Cam Retainer Bolts
- ARP Head Bolts
- LS6 Intake Manifold
- Potz Performance Ported TB and MAF Ends
- Comp Cams Trunion Upgrade Kit
- Melling 10296 High Volume Oil Pump
- Pacesetter 1-3/4" LTs and Catted Y-Pipe
- SLP 2OTL Exhaust
- Vengeance Racing VRX5 Cam
- Trickflow As Cast 220cc Heads (will be milled at machine shop during build)
- Powdered Metal Valve Guides
- PRC .650 Double Springs with Titanium Retainers
- LS3 Injectors (42lb/hr)
- FIC Injector Adapters and Spacers
- Cometic .040" MLS Head Gaskets
- Stainless Steel Engine Bolt Set
- SLP Lid
- Racetronix F99 Fuel Pump Kit
- Manton 3/8" .120" Wall Pushrods

What do you think? I need just a few bolts, gaskets, pushrods and the oil pump and we are ready to rock! Pushrods will probably be the last thing considering I don't even know what size to go with anymore with new heads and the Morel's (which I think have a different plunger height than the LS7 lifters).

I'm *hoping* for 440whp. Dyno's have tended to dissapoint me in the past though so I don't wanna get my hopes up too high. Either way I think it's stout with hardly any expense spared.

One of the small things I am debating is the need for header/head/main ARP studs. They are pricey but with the motor potentially seeing a big shot down the road it would technically make sense to at least go with the main studs now since we will already have the motor pulled. Thoughts?

Thanks for the read fellas.

Sounds like a great build, I would definitely invest in some ARP hardware if you plan on running a large amount of n20.

Don't know the specs of that cam but I've yet to see a Trick Flow headed
combo that doesn't make mad power....

Im looking at going with a similar build except with tea/tfs 215 heads milled to 59cc and stock cubes. Let me know how you like that cam choice, im looking at picking up the vrx5 as well but cant decide that or a custom cam!

Seen some great results with those heads. Check out this build. It backs it up at the track, i think the car traped over 120mph in some very shitty air. this was after he added a fast intake setup though.

That just made my day, lol. It looks like the cam wasn't starting to drop off yet, do you think it had another 10whp+ in it?

with a couple more mods this car has in my opinion 20+ more in it. it has a very sub-par ypipe and exhaust and an intake swap definitely wouldnt hurt.

i was looking at the date for the graph i posted and that wasnt the final tune, i put the car back on the rollers a couple months later and dialed it in better. top end stayed about the same but picked up a ton of midrange. also pulled it to 6500 to see if the cam would fall off. he didnt wanna pull it any higher

That is a very nice looking curve. Power all over the band. I look forward to the results from my build.

Looks nice... you have some high dollar stuff in there like the Morels... but you skimp on the intake manifold and headers? I guess the money is better spent on reliability than chasing 10-15hp, but that's something you could look at in the future for more power if you ever needed.

PRC .650 Double Springs with Titanium Retainers - why these? Don't the TFS heads come with .650" springs (which are the same as what Brian Tooley sells now?). I'd also look at turned down LS3 valves for the TFS heads and maybe some hand porting by Tooley. I think it's like $150 and $300 respectively and it'd improve your power by a noticeable amount.

You hit the nail on the head.... I'm going for reliability first, performance second. The intake will be upgraded to a FAST 102, and heads upgraded to stainless 2" eventually. For now, they will work fine . I think the valves were an option... To be honest this build is over budget as is I didn't have the extra $$$ to go that route same with porting. Down the road it would be a perfect chance to get a few more ponies out of the setup though. Already had a set of PRC .650 springs with the retainers from a previous build so they will get swapped over. Originally planned on going with something like a .675" lift set and changed cam plans so they weren't needed.

The end goal was a dang near bulletproof setup for the best value it's getting close!

Dropped the car off yesterday at the shop. A few more pics of the parts for you guys. Cam is here too no pics of it. Still haven't gotten my heads yet, pics of them before install will be coming.

Original dyno sheet before this build.

On the way to the shop.

If you plan on keeping this engine for a while, I would go out a little and do the ARP studs and bolts in the mains and the rods now while its apart.

You have a killer combo! Later on down the road, you can move on to the intake/TB/MAF etc...Should be fun!

Already have ARP 2000 rod bolts, and ARP head bolts. The ARP main bolts are for sure on the list. Thanks man I bet this thing is gonna be rowdy. Alot of the short block is still up in the air pending the condition of block/pistons/etc. A larger cube motor is still possible, I am still on a budget (at least trying lol) so we will see!

you need to aline hone the mains if you use studs for the main caps.main cap studs aren't really for most builds.
