Default Whats a good upgrade cam to replace a TR224 112?

Thinking of changing out my TR224 112 cam over the winter? I have Livernois Stage 1 heads. What cam would be worth the work? Thinking around .595 because I have some brand new 918 springs to use.

What are you doing with the car. What are your plans for it?

Personally, I would go with a "don't fix it if it ain't broken" kinda attitude unless there is a good reason you intend to change it.

That's a really good driver cam and your limitation of .595 lift means you won't likely be stepping up to a cam that's large enough to make the swap worthwhile.

I don't quite agree with you there. .595 lift (What he wants is under .600 lift). He can gain a good 15rwhp with a slightly bigger cam.

TSP 228R .588 .588 112 will get you close to .600 or better yet just do a custom grind and get something like 228 232 .595 .600 112. But the second one would put the singles on edge

He could probably gain 10-15 HP with a change to a FAST 102/102 setup.
He is also using aftermarket heads. I would be checking my PTV clearances
and then inquire with some of our resident cam guru's to find out what your options will be. Good luck.

Yeah but he's saying that might not be worthwhile, not that it won't gain anything.

15rwhp for 6-8 hours of labor is kinda not worth it.

For the effort and cost 10-15rwhp for the cam/tune/labor would not be worth it to me.

I would rather hunt out a deal on a fast intake or something else to optimize the current setup. An intake swap is less than 1/4 the effort of swapping the cam and retuning the car in hopes of picking up a realistic 10rwhp.

More than 1 way to skin a cat.

get the heads milled for 11.5:1 compression to maximize that little cam without sacrificing driving characteristics

If you are gonna step up to a bigger cam, make it something you will notice. I would go for something like TSP Torquer 2.. 232/234. Just upgrade the springs.

its not worth the swap. youd have to go bigger and it would affect driveability a little more depending on how good your tune and overall setup is. Put the time and effort elsewhere. Nitrous maybe. A 150 shot will wake it up for sure.

FAST setup would give you more than what most of the cams people are saying would provide. That's a solid 15rwhp peak gain and added 10-15rwtq torque under the curve.

Thought 224 cams weren't ideal for juice.

Ideal does not mean that it won't work. Nitrous will make your car fun again.

Agreed, you might not pick up as much RWHP as a car with a cam that favors nitrous but you're still going to be getting a whole lot more than a cam swap could ever offer. Even if you only do a 50-75 shot you will still be way ahead.

I'm tempted to bounce to the Torquer V3 over my TR224, now that she's not a daily driver..
