Default What a wonderful Ticking noise i have!!

Recently I bought a 2000 SS A4 Camaro. It had been sitting for over a year and just needed some love. I installed a Battery, IAC Valve, IAT sensor and an alternator.I also performed an oil change. Finally it starts and will idle, however i have a really interesting Ticking noise at idle. When i let the car warm up it's still ticking and the tick stops if you hold the throttle at around 2000 rpm. The computer isn't giving me any service engine soon codes and i would think the knock sensors would pick up something with as loud and this tick is. To me it sounds like lifters may be the cause but i'm trying to confirm my suspicions. i'm planning on a TSP MS4 cam and a set of ported 5.3 heads. can anyone help me determine a way to find out if this is truly a lifter issues before tearing into it??

Does it stop when warmed up? Try a different weight oil.

Most likely a lifter.

no the tick continues even when it's warmed up. I'm pretty much convinced that it is lifters.

How many miles? Mine started a tick after I installed headers. Found out I didnt have a spark plug all the way tight. Mostly went away but still have a noise very similiar to yours that I did not notice before. Good luck figuring it out.
