Default 98' TA just added to the stable need input!

I just picked up a 98' TA with 130k on the motor trans/rear were rebuild recently according to the owner. The motor has a knock so i'm going to drop the motor/trans out and tear it apart to see what the issue is but more than likely it will need rebuild. I want to do the magical 500HP build but not break the bank doing so i already have a high end 427 TT GN project going on this will be my street beater car!
So what is the most cost effective route to see some nice HP #'s is it worth wild messing with a 383 stroker kit?
I will be doing all the surrounding upgrades also i plan on running the rear and trans with a converter upgrade until they pop then i will address those when that time comes and yes i know HP does not come cheap i just would like to do a nice budget build with good end results! And havea nasty sounding cam that makes small kids look in fear!!!
Any guidance on this venture will be greatly appreciated!

Spend money on the heads that's where the power is, especially on a 98 car.

I had plans on doing some nice ported stockers or maybe find some used TFS heads. Just dont really know about the bottom end as to do a stroker kit or stay with stock sizing with a bore job i think larger CI would help the cause though.

The 98 blocks were the batch with the thinnest walls. You may end up finding a 6.0 block since sleaving the stock LS1 block will probably cost more than a running junkyard motor.
Bigger bore is better with moving air anyway.

Thanks for the input on the block i do want to stay with a aluminum block for the weight savings though.
