high mileage ls1? Heads and cam or new longblock?
I am saving for some good h/c/i combo on my 2000 camaro ss. My ? is I have 100 K miles now and just did headers. Car runs great and was stock when I bought and was a one owner car so makes me think it was cared for and not abused. Would it be better to say buy a remanufactured ls6 long block and use all my stuff from my car. I see them from 2500 to 4000 grand. I would then have heads ported and polished. I figure it will be almost the same price maybe a little less to do heads and cam. Thoughts? opinions?I just worry that after I do the heads and cam with my old bottom end might go and I would be at square one

You could do a cam on that no problem if the car wasn't beaten and has good oil pressure. 100k cam swaps are quite common among ls1 motors.
You could do a cheap swap.
Although if you're looking for longevity and are going to be spinning that motor high in the rpm range: go for a newer short block / built short block.
I cam'd mine at a little over 110k and it runs strong as hell! I had good compression and oil pressure prior to the swap.
Good luck

Tainted that would give me a fresh bottom end with my block now correct ? I am learning as i go. How much for it installed roughly?
Matty i have good compression and oil pressure. Engine consumes 1 quart every 3k but does not leak. My goal is 400 to 450 rwhp. So i may just get some cheap heads and cam it, thanks for suggestions

Even if you toast the that engine, you could always take the stuff off and put it on a new short block.

It runs great but it is so true you just dont know, that being said heads and cam it is lol. I have researched a ton and cant beat tsp 5.3 or ls6 stage 1 head cam packages. I like them both and i know the ls6 leaves room for growth. I have about a g saved for parts so i will buy parts then save for instalation. Im glad i have a good tuner even though almost 2 hr ride. Im in ct. What is labor usyally run 2 gs or so

I wouldnt be afraid to do cam and heads. it could blow tomorrow or run another 100k who knows. like the other guy said tho you will still have your parts. I've seen several ls1's use oil even with low miles...i wouldnt worry about it.
