Question Best LS1 Water Pump Gaskets Are...?

2001 F-Body LS1 engine...Which gaskets do you prefer for a stock water pump...the paper versions...or the o-ring/aluminum plate versions? Thanks

factory gasket has always worked fine for the vast majority of us. in fact all the factory gaskets are pretty good.

Aluminum/o-ring version. Just go down to your local auto parts store and they should have them in a FelPro brand.

I think some brands are all paper too....I found that GM gaskets from Summit are cheaper than Fel-pro. My Local part stores didnt carry the Felpro on the shelf either. So bought online was a must

Default Water Pump Gasket Preference...

O.K., Thanks everybody. The only reason I ask is when I ordered my new Advance Auto water pump that everyone recommended, I also ordered the $10.00 apiece FelPro O-ring gaskets, and thermostat O-ring to go along with it. When I opened the box, new "paper" gaskets & o-ring were already in there. Thanks again for your valued input.

The paper will work, 97-98 I think some 99 cars had them. they seal and last till the WP will be off. Ive taken alot of WP off on cars with 75-100K and still had the stock paper WP gaskets, I bet the stock WP dies before the paper gaskets most of the time. But there a one time use gasket, unless you grease them and take then off carefully in 5K or less I'd guess. Nothing wrong with them you you don't plan on taking your WP off aot.
The alum Oring re use alot better, if you work on your car alot there a good gasket to use. Clean the block and WP really well, Like scotchbrite them. Put some black rtv on the backside, not to seal them but to stock them on the block (more on the alum then the Oring) and light grease, or pipedope or a teflon paste a light coating on the WP side. SO they dont stock to the WP you can RnR the WP almost unlimited time for years if they don't stick. So thats nice, for a race car, or dyno motor.
