Default need help.. popping through carb running like crap!

ok so i have a little problem and im stumped on what it could be..
5.3 in a mustang with vic jr and quickfuel carb, msd 6010.. heres the problem.. sometimes it runs awesome and other times it runs like complete ****.. when it runs like crap itsounds like its popping through the exhaust at idle and if i hold the gas steady but if i stomp on it it just pops like 5 times and backfires through carb.. sometimes it runs good and sometimes it runs like ****.. i checked everything! what could it be?!?!? today i started it and it ran awsome and then all of a sudden it started doing the popping again.. somebody help

If you have room pull your crank position sensor out and check the gap spacing on the reluctor wheels...easy to do if you can drop the pan easily. Double check, but I am pretty sure the gap is .040"

would that make it run good sometimes and pther tomes run like ****? i pulled the crank sensor out to see if i could feel any play in the reluctor wheel and there wasnt any.. after that i let it sit for 2 days and i started it and it ran perfect and then i let it sit for a week and then today i start it up and it ran great and then out of nowhere it started doing this again.. i changed the plugs last time it did this and it was still the same..

I was thinking more in terms of AFR. Bad gas? dirty or clogged needles? Is your quick fuel a double pumper or a Vac secondary? Vacuum leak?

I have a similar setup but in an s10. Mine was doing the same thing when i was tuning from idle to wot so the converter would flash. I also found the issue to be fuel pressure. When the pump would get hot my psi would drop 2 1/2 pounds. 8an lines and a holley blue dont mix. 140 mallory with a return line, no issues.

are your using the map sensor? that could be giving you a problem, i never ran the map sensor on my setup and i never had an issue, which ignition chip are you running? are u running one at all? put a different timing chip in it and try again, check that the ignition timing is actually what its supposed to be, if its commanded at 36 doesnt necessarily mean its 36, what plugs are you running? what is the gap? alot of factors play into this. message me on Facebook if u have any questions

36* of timing is alot bro...Im pretty sure its your timing...My car was doing the EXACT same as yours just last weekend, I finally adjusted my timing correct and guess what, it runs like a champ now, no more popping or anything..and THAT WAS THE ONLY THING CHANGED WAS TIMING....use your laptop bro..

How much timing are you throwing at this thing just sitting there idling?

Man I dont remember what it is set at now, i cant view it without my laptop being plugged in my msd and my car is at my storage. But from 0-1000 im at 12* (i think) from 1000-2400 at 24* (i think again) 2400-3500 like 28* and from 3500-6800 its like 30* i believe...hell idk for sure but i know its something like that..My car ran like **** before i dialed in my timing.

Also check that crank sensor too.
