Default Wimp build head and 1.8 rockers on a lq9

Well first off my truck.

So far I have the basics bolt on tuned, LSXRT and 90mm TB

Working on a 4" intake and card style MAF

I want to do Heads and 1.8 roller rockers

What are your suggestions I was thinking TEA or flow tech 243 heads with a Baby spring for long life and yella terra ultra lite rockers ???

I do not want to cam swap at this time but will be using these parts in the future when I build up a short block( a few years out)
What do you think I get for gains?

Get the heads, but 1.8 rockers are a waste of time I would save that money until you get cammed...lot of people having probs with roller rockers, but if your dead set on it SLP makes some nice factory style 1.75 ratio rockers since I saw long term valvetrain life was a concern...good luck

Your intake tract breathes plenty as it is. No need for a 4" pipe and a card MAF. At all. Save the money for the cam upgrade. If your engine isn't requiring the additional airflow it's money wasted.

Ed at FlowTech has some BEAUTIFUL 243 port work, as does AI's 226 program. With your 4" bore and flat top pistons I'd get the 232 program if you go with AI.

Even with wanting long valvetrain life you would be further ahead to get a mild cam and trunnion upgrade vs. roller rockers.

The AI 243s and 6.0l are what I am looking at for my truck. I use them for the LT1 in my car and am very happy.

Skip on 1.8 rockers, just upgrade the factory rockers. With the heads keep in mind that the larger heads won't give you the TRQ the smaller heads will.

Far as head size it is easy to overgeneralize without considering what the baseline is a good 226/232cc catherderal port is not "big" for a 6.0l.

If you do the math look at the 218cc stock intake port, nobody is going to tell you that is "too big" for a 5.7l, hell these days it is stock on the 5.3l trucks. The displacement increase from 5.7l to 6.0l is 5% now apply that to the 218cc add 5% and you have 229cc. Point being when you break it all down the heads you are looking at are perfectly reasonably sized for torque with the extra displacement.

I am absolutely not camming this truck at the current moment. I want a big short block but am waiting a little before I dig into that. The truck has almost very high miles and can not justify spending everything at once. I have another car boat ect. This is my fun work truck. I am not doing a high mileage cam swap only to wipe out the short block prematurely. I would have been better off letting it go after this happened
took a lot of $$$ to get it back to current shape. I wish I could have gone back taken the check and walked from that day.

So reliable Rockers and Heads are my focus now. Think Fun work truck and Reliable
