Default Main bearing bolt hole stripped how do I fix it.

Ok I was installing a new crank in my daughters 02 WS6 LS1 today and as I was installing the main bearing cap bolts one of the outer bolts that has the windage tray stud on it stripped out as I was snugging it up with a 3/8 ratchet never evan got tight. I took the bolt back out and the hole in the block is stripped out no threads left at all. What Is the best way to fix this should I get a hili coil kit and drill it out and install the hili coil or is there a better way? What size is main bearing cap bolts?

Well, you could just drill it and heli-coil it. Now somebody might confirm or deny but this might knock your line bore out being it might change how the block distorts. Somebody else will chime in, but I would now be thinking about checking the whole motor out.

I have never used these on an engine, however I have used them an several industrial applications. Pumps and such. We actaully have ( 2 ) of these on a very large high dicharge pressure compressor. I would highly suggest that you give them a look.

Does anybody know what the size of the bolt is, I will check those inserts out they look like they should work great. This is my 17 year old daughters car and wont be seeing any track times so its not hammered on every time it leaves the driveway. I believe if I can get a good tread repair kit put in it, it will be fine and never give me any problems.

use timeserts all the time in aluminum parts at work, and not for repairs, but new, machined parts. Work good.

A keen-sert is the same as the time-sert but cost less money.

that's what you need right there. $500 later and your good to go. If the block is out why not take it to a machine shop and have them do the cert. The shop im at charges $30 a cert.

Keen-serts are even less and you can do it yourself.
