LS6 bottom end?
Well i finally picked up a 04' LS6 long block that has 60K on it atleast that is what i was told! I popped the heads and pan no surprizes still see hatch marks and all is tight so i was thinking of changing the rods and pistons to forged and run the stock crank but i see so many guys running a stock bottom making 450-550whp with no issues which is where i want to be! So should i even bother with the forged parts or just change the bearings, rings, and rods bolts and call it a day? Also depending on the heads i run i may need to fly cut the pistons i plan on running a MS4 or very similar cam how much can you safely cut the stock slugs? i would have it done at the machine shop while its there?

GM designed the LS architecture for 250,000 miles so @ 60 that thing is just
gettin' goin.....IMHO you should just Lindy tool cut the slugs .080" deep and
get with Tony Mamo from AFR or Martin @ Tick to help ya match a heads/cam
combo.......Texas Speed can also get you some real nice heads for the MS4 if
you're absolutely stuck on that......Again I would not even ring or bearing that
thing just plug and play man !!!!!!!

Yea i know the mileage is not a issue but i just want to know what i have! i have spoke with Aaron from TSP about heads today he highly recommended the Prc 227's and I'm not stuck on the Ms4 just something around that size. I have some Arp main studs and rod bolts i might just have the machine shop install with the bearing and rings if its not to pricey and let them do the fly cutting much easier i think!

machine shops usually have a piston mounting fixture to mill valve reliefs so
pistons would have to be removed from the rods. If they're not full floating,
I've seen shops wreck pistons trying to remove them via a press. Also the
better the heads you use the less cam you need to make great power.
