Default best driver cam?

I have a 99 C5 stock motor w TPIS long tubes and a vararam. what would be a good daily driver cam that makes good bottom end power without killing valvesprings? The car has stock ls1 intake , 853 heads and a M6 manual transmission.

I would say an ASA cam would suit your needs, upgrade to LS6 springs and run with it.

for starters that intake is gonna have to go.

228R is a great daily driver cam. Springs should last 40k or so, maybe more, maybe less. If you want a cam, but are afraid of springs then dont bother. Also note youre gonna need pushrods and a few other things also...

I had a TR 224/224 .563/.563 with beehives that I ran the guts out off for 100,000 miles and never had valve spring issues.

+1 here. If you're gonna go 224, you mine as well go 228. Still a good DD cam. As has been said earlier, you need to get at least an LS6 intake.

Listen to this guy. Both of them would make great DD (with a good tune). I would go with the stage 2.

I personally think the Stage 2 (231/238 .617"/.585" 113+3) is a great cam for a car that will be driven over 5000-7500 miles a year and needs to have good manners, but still want an awesome power curve.

Here is a cam only 6.0 GTO with nothing but long tube headers, exhaust and a vararam intake:

You can drive this car in 6th gear at 50-55mph all day long to boot!
