seen ls6 crate motors at SDPC for under $3500 a couple years ago.check out Texas Speed or schwanke engines.

I would think a core would be around $1000, then you add good rods and pistons $1200 machine work $900, head work $1000, cam and valve train parts $700, Hardware $600, mis, $1000,

Not usually, unless you're going with an LS6 block over an LS1 block. In the end, whether it goes into a corvette or yugo, the engine is the engine so it should cost the same. Other accessories and drivetrain might cost more in a corvette, but engine is about the same.

A basic forged ls1 shortblock can be hard for ~4k
