Default What head CC would yall go with

Hi all

I just picked up a torguer V3 231/234 .643/598 111 LSA. i already have a set of stock 243 heads. i want to send them off to AI for porting. i just have a question about the cc size i should go with. i would like to shoot for 450+. i also wonder what i should have them mille to. im shooting for 10:5 compression.

Thanks all
Walker

11.5-1 is what I'd shoot for. Don't know if it will cause P/V clearance problems with that cam.

I would definately check the ptv clearance and flycut if needed.

64cc is 10.5:1 and the stock chamber size on a stock piston'd LS1 w/ 243's. If you wanted to bump it without milling at all, you could run the Cometic .040 gaskets. Stock 3.900 bore this will get you to ~10.8:1. This will give you added quench, which helps against detonation while keeping the added flow from your P&Ping. Milling your heads will decrease flow from the head a little. From my understanding cosmetics don't like spray, so I wouldn't recommend this if you plan to spray in the future.

With that cam, I'm not sure you can mill much without fly cutting pistons with the torquer V3. TSP or AI would be able to help, but measuring is the safest way to go.

srry i forgot to add that. this is a 346(ls1). the big reason i dont want to go up tp 11:5 compression is becuase i will probaly hav the car tuned on 91....93 if im lucky. where i store the car, its hard to find 93. but where my base is, its all 93. from what i undestadn this should require any flycutting. and to be honest if it did i would rather just go for some new forged. this is my first real ls1 build and im tryig to make sure i get eveything right.

Thanks fellas

Forget about your static compression and look at your dynamic compression...keep it just under 8.5:1

I'm running 12.5:1 compression in my 408 on pump gas with 0 knock on full timing because ny dynamic compression is only 8.22:1

Id go for for 11.1 - 11.5:1. That seems to be the safe limit with 93octane

^This.

Cam events have more to do with how much static compression you can run than the difference between 91 and 93.

Chiming in because I'm looking at the PRC 2.5 5.3 with 64cc to match up with the tourqerV3

Yes those will work great, just contact TSP and they will match the combo for you.
Personally I'm not too crazy about LSK lobes for the street, but hey to each his own.

I second that cams with LSK lobes are not a wise choice for street use, unless you like to change out new valve springs often on your street car.

What...??? On a stock LS1 bottom end with no flycutting? I know they say there's a first time everything but some things are simply impossible.

well im not to worried because this will not be a street car..probaly not even a weekend driver. i live in little rock arkansas and im leaving the car in north carolina in my dads garage. i will mainly only take it out for car shows. i only get to go home ever once in a while.

and if you ask why i would fix up a car like this and leave it in NC. i simply wouldnt have a good place to store it, or work on it. i dont want the car exposed to the element once i get her fixed up

and i understand the importance of asking questions like these. i take value in the opinons and knowledge of you tech guys
