I just swapped to the tick performance ported ls6 pump. It's working great. I think any new ls6 pump ported of not and a new oring for the pickup tube and you'll be fine. Lots of people love the ported pump from Texas speed also. All are good options.

That's the one I just put in my car. I'm seeing about 15psi more pressure idle hot on the dash guage. I've put a few hundred miles on it. It's doin the job. I'm not sure if my pressure increase is because of what tick does or the bad oring that was in their tho. Lol

im about to swap a melling stock volume high pressure one real soon. as long as you dont get the crappy 1998-2000 oem pump is fine. The stock ones from that year are known to fail. Hence the swap ill be doing

Would this pump be more efficient than the ported LS6 oil pump?

If so, why would a cam only street car with a decent size cam need that much more?
Isn't there a possibility of sucking the pan dry possibly causing a problem?

I too am a Melling oil pump fan! They are a very high quality replacement......and I happen to keep their oil pumps in stock!!

Melling states that engines with increased bearing clearance may require the HV/HP pump.

Here is George Richmond of Melling discussing the differences of the LS based oil pumps they offer. Go Melling!

i bought a stock ls6 replacement pump. i see no reason any of the other pumps would protect any better on a street engine. the new(er) oem pumps are known to last 200k+ miles and withstand abuse in the process. that's a big shoe to fill regarding oil pumps.

1) Yes, I had and LS6 pump in my first cam only swap and it shut, the oil pressure valve got stock, and I had to go back in the engine to replace it.

2) Melling It's a High quality pump and it's like extra insurance so you won't have to go back in the engine and replace it like I did.

3) Not really unless you have low oil level, I have the HV and I have pushed my car to 160 mph and the oil pressure stays pretty good.

I have standard LS6 oil pump that sees a lot of high RPM. No issues.
