Default compression hiss?

this is my first time doing an engine build so dont bash me lol. i was just wondering are you suppose to hear a slight his in the valve cover/ oil pan if you turn your engine over with a breaker bar? it isnt loud. sounds like its in the oil pan. does compression seap past the rings?
