Default Look at my piston and head. Run or Not

The motor is a 2005 LQ4. Suppose to have 50,000 miles on it, but I think it has more. Took my heads off tonight to have them milled and found this. What should I do? Run it or not. The cylinder had a very small place on it but I dont think its an issue. The heads are getting milled .030, so I think they will clean up. I hope.

if your milling that much off the heads, that should clear up. those pistons look pitted and how do the cylinder walls look? i just went through something similar with my shortblocl...

There was a very small spot on the number 7 cylinder. The rest looked fine. Im not crazy concerned about it but it did cross my mind that there could be a problem. What did you end up doing?

I wasn't comfortable with the scratches in my cylinder bore so i had a machine shop take a look, and my concerns were right.. so I had them rebuild it.

Idk Im not a real expert but Im guessing the piece that broke off the piston bounced around and did that damage to the combustion chamber? and if the walls look good then that piece probablly flew out of your exhaust....

The very small scratch was the the very top of the stroke. Not sure what to do.

That pistons isnt going to last long. Its gonna be a prime spot for detonation to occur and itll take the whole piston out.

Thats what I was afraid of. New pistons or bore w/new pistons? So much for a budget build.

Definitely new pistons. Bore it .030 over and call it a day. The head will more than likely clean up.

This. You might as well go oversized while they have it on the machine.

Im seeing lq4s being bored .060 over now. I would do that if I were you, or if you really are on that tight of a budget just sell it and try another stock shortblock.

I found a deal in the sale section for a set of DRP pistons that are 4.005 with -10cc dish. I called my machine shop and he said he would bore the block .005 and put in new cam bearings for $275. What do yall think. I know everbody is gonna say go bigger but I think I can get $800 pistons for around $350.

Nevermind that. They wont fit stock rods. plus they are for the wrong stroke. Back to the drawing board.

Im gonna run it. Cheap motor anyway. Worse thing that would happen is wipe out my new cam and lifters. It might run one minute or it might run a couple years. Ill let yall know what happens.

Dont be scard, run it! Just mill you head and try to smooth out the nicks on the piston and call it a day.
