My ported 241 heads **more pics added**
A friend of mine is a head porter for a major engine shop in Indianapolis. He knew that I was piecing together an LS1 engine and mentioned that he had done a set of 241 heads before, with good results. He also had another set laying around. He offered me a good price to put together a set of assembled heads and I couldn't say no. I'll just say that, for less than $1000, he did a full port/polish, gasket-match, Serdi valve job, installed new Manley valves, locks, PAC beehive springs, retainers, flowed the heads, cc'd the chambers, and milled to stock chamber volume.
Here are the flow numbers:
In. Ex
.200. 146. 110
.300. 201. 160
.400. 253. 190
.500. 290. 205
.600. 296. 222
.700. 303. 241
*Ex flow without pipe*
Picture:
Let me know what you think of my choice. I plan to build an all-forged 383 stroker with a FAST92, custom cam, blah blah blah. Want to do like mmarshall and drop it into a FFR Daytona coupe kit.
The guy who built these heads likes to do work on the side. So if you're interested in his services, then please let me know.

Okay. I talked with him and here is his info:
His name is Darin Morrison and he works at Steve Schmidt Competition Engines. However, in 2 weeks he'll be relocating and working in Minnesota at Hitech Motorsport. http://www.hitechmotorsport.com/
He has worked on every type of head you could imagine, including NHRA Pro Stock, mountain motors, etc. He helped design a custom 2-piece billet CNC hemi head for pulling motors...among other projects. Really knows his stuff and is a straight-shooter.

that's pretty sad, seems like he does good work but now he will be doing it at a terrible shop. A few friends and i have had some bad problems with them after a couple blown engines, bad tunes, just all around terrible service. I may end up going to him though not because of the shop but because of the proven numbers in his work

That's unfortunate to hear. I can only hope that the business stays afloat and improves their quality of work while Darin is there. He's a great person and deserves to work in a good shop.
The primary reason why he is moving up to MN is because he and his wife want to be closer to family (they're from ND). They have a baby on the way, so being close to home is important to them.
I hope that that shop isn't as bad as it sounds. Regardless, they just managed to hire an excellent head porter. Like I said, he has worked on everything and been very successful at it. Go ahead and look-up the accomplishments of Steve Schmidt Competition Engines. They know what they're doing over there.
It will be another week and 1/2 before he is up in MN. If you go to see him, just say that Ryan sent you. I have sent quite a few people his way and none of them have been disappointed.
Will post more pics of the heads later in the week. Still don't have 'em in my hands.

The new shop is in Elk Grove, MN. I believe that is correct, anyway.
Not sure why he flowed them without a pipe. The numbers would be better/greater with the pipe. I'll ask.

Yes, that is what I was referring to.
Sounds like we are in opposite ends of the state.
Wouldn't mind getting in touch with him for a little 5.3 head work...

CattleAc: You can reach Darin at his new shop or PM me if you would like to possibly contact him directly. Looks like he's located NW of Minneapolis with the new job. He'd be more than happy to do work for you.
3rdCoast: Thank you. I'm very happy with the heads. They should be more than adequate to accomplish my goals for the motor. Darin is a pro and all-around nice guy. I have seen his work over the years and everything has been top-notch. He just did a DOHC 6cyl Jaguar head for a friend of mine, in fact. Need to get pics of it.
If anyone would like to contact Darin, just let me know or call him at Hitech in Elk River, MN and tell him that Ryan sent you.
