Default Looking to stroke a 5.3 or 5.7. How big can I go ?

I'd like to stroke either my 5.3 or 5.7. Which block will allow me to go with the larger displacement and still be safe to boost.
Can I make a 383 ish out of a 5.3 iron block ?
Will the 5.7 be able to be a larger displacement then the 5.3 ?
I'm trying build the largerest displacement motor with the blocks I already have.
Thanks in advance

Not sure on the iron block, but I know you can take an aluminum 5.3 out to 3.905" pretty safely. You can run a 4.125" stroke in either case (not ideal as the cylinder liners aren't long enough and allow for rocking at the bottom), but that creates a 395cid engine. A 4.100" stroke would be a little better and would give you a 392/393 depending on bore (3.903/3.905).

looking for max displacement and boost suggests YOU should not be planning this yet.
Drop the quest for displacement.

Ya I know. But if I go with something with a larger displacement I will order larger turbochargers.
Id like to build a strong bottom that will support my needs for years to come. I've been through a bunch of engines in the last 3-4years and thats got to stop.
I dont want to order these 6162s and then build a motor that will support the 6665s I want to run.
My plan is to order the larger turbos, build a strong bottom end, and run the heads I have now until I can afford to upgrade them to 350cfm+ heads.
I cant do it all at once and I dont want to wait till next year to finsh this car.

Most people will probably say to not go any bigger than a 4" crank with boost

I'm not sure about 2 6665s on a 347. It's a street car with a 6 speed. I don't want the boost to come on at 4500 rpm.

The 5.3 can usually be bored out to 5.7 bore size. If so, then both blocks can be stroked equally. I'm one of those guys that say no more than a 4" crank on boost. So, 383 is about the limit on both. If you want more displacement, you need to find a 6.0 iron block and make a 408 out of it.

I regret selling my 6.0L more and more. A 408 would be perfect. The only way to get a 6.0L block around here would cost me $1000. That would put me around or just over $5000 to build a 408 short block. Vs $3500 ish for a 383.

Or buy an assembled 408 short block from Texas Speed (on sale right now for $3,550).
