Measuring cam shafts? Help?
G'day guys,
My mate has got a defect on his ute he had a 408 stroker built by a perf shop a while back and the **** didnt give him any info on what they used just a bill is there any way to measure a camshaft whilst still in the motor?to get it all engineered you have to state cam size etc etc etc I was thinking along lines of taking rocker covers off putting dial indicator on the push rod side of things and go from there?
Cheers for the help muchly appreciated.

We have had a look previously the perf shop ground the numbers off because they sell "custom grinds" which I'm pretty sure are just off the shelves with part # ground off

I measured mine with a dial indicator on a pushrod. I took one data point (degree wheel reading) for every 0.010" of lobe lift. This method will give you durations, peak lift, LSA and ICL. I would not be able to get the lobe profile from this, maybe someone like Pat G could help you there.

Wow, nice attention to detail!
