Recommend me a cam & valvetrain - 4.8
Hey guys,
I'm after some recommendations of what cam i should look at, as well as pushrods, lifters, springs, if needed...
Some specs:
Stock LR4 4.8
LS1 intake
Car weighs 2700lbs
T56 gearbox
3.09 gear
Used for weekends & track days mostly, with the odd bit of daily driving.
I'm sure there's some other specs that i've missed out.
Cheers

I see you've got 30+ views and no replies so I'll give you my opinion.
Since your application is a bit different than most, I would suggest reaching out to a custom cam guy. I've used Ed Curtis at Flowtechinduction.com in the past and was very pleased with the outcome. He can supply you with the right valvetrain parts to match your cam/combo as well. He might not be the most popular vendor on this forum, but keep in mind most forums are funded by vendors sponsership fees. So they tend to be a little biased. Im new around here and I dont know who the popular guys are, and I am not knocking them. You should be in good hands with any of the vendors here, but I have no expeirence with them.
I know alot of people like to do their own research, and choose an "off the shelf" cam that will work well with their application, but you might find that the suggestion from other forum members dont always work out as planned. I prefer to leave the guess work out of the equation and pay a little bit more money and have a proffessional custom taylor a cam to work perfectly with my combo. And since your combo is unique, I would get a custom cam.
Good luck!

Thanks for the honest & comprehensive reply.
I've never experienced working with a custom cam - i like the idea though. However i think it may prove difficult being the other side of the water.
Personally i'd prefer to buy an off the shelf cam - purely for the after sales support & proven results.

if long tubes, i would say a low 220s cam with pac 1218 springs. if stock exhaust manifolds, you need long tubes if at all possible. worse case scenario, shorties but then cam selection would be more like a 212 high lift i would think. nice lil lightweight project....

Stock shorties as it's a bit of a squeeze for now.
Thanks for the in depth replies - really helpful & good food for thought.
With those cams would i have to swap out springs (most likely would replace for peace of mind), pushrods, lifters etc - apologies if a noob question.

Yeah you'll need better valve springs, PR's, and lifters unless there's low mileage on them.
Some good valve springs would be the PAC 1211X (about $150) or PSI LS1511ML(about $200), both are beehive springs, same seat pressure(130), open pressure(370), and spring rate(384), and their both good for .625" lift.

I'd go with hardened PRs(probably 7.425" but measure to make sure with a PR length checker),and Brian Tooley Racing SLR lifters(about$200). I'd also to a trunion (Comp Cams, summit Racing, etc..) upgrade to the stock rockers.
BTW, How much mileage do you have on the engine?
