How high of rpm can a stock 5.3 crank take in a non power adder application? What rods with Weisco Pistons for high rpm? What non ported cathedral port heads would work best?

im running a 1999 5.3 stock long block and i currently have shifts set at 6300 and i am working on getting it up to 6500. my cam is a little smaller than a .228 it pulls pretty hard my rev limit is 6900. if your worried about something coming apart at high rpm its gonna be the rod bolts i spray a 200 shot on this car and it loves it these stock bottom ends can take a beating..

and the stock heads flow pretty good, i plan on finding another set of 5.3 heads (ive seen them for $50) and doing a slight port job they should outflow the better castings. you can put the bigger ls1 valves in the truck heads also, which you can find for dirt cheap. i also plan on decking them slightly for a nice compression bump should help make power.

I'd say stock bottom with some good rod bolts, 243 heads, decent size cam around .600 lift and 23x duration and spin it to 7000ish. Basically what i did with my ls6 and spun to 7300
