LS1 spun bearing, need advice if I should rebuild it or not
My 2000 SS spun a bearing, I don't know how but it did. My mechanic friend verified my worries about it. He checked where the noise is coming from and it is in the engine. It increases in frequency as the rpms go up but for the safety of the engine it hasn't been revved very high.
Anyone on here have a list of parts that I would need to get in order to get the car running again?
Car has over 142k miles
I might just end up selling the car to a mechanic friend if it's too much.
RIP Camaro SS

I agree it sounds weird. But my original plan before the SS broke was to buy a sonic or something that's light on gas. Then keep the SS to mod out, but the SS broke while i'm without a job. So my logic is to sell the ss and use the $$ as a down payment and keep some extra to use as monthly payments. I should be back into my IT field within a month or so.
But that all gets rid of my plan to mod out the SS, it's just crappy timing for it to break.

sit down and work out how much gas money you actually save over the years buying a car that gets good mpg.... I did the math when I was considering one and while driving 15k a year a car that got 15mpg better than my camaro and used regular saved me 1200 per year.... That means it would have taken 10+ years to pay for itself. Not worth it imo.
I agree get a cheap used 6.0 shortblock and swap it
Oh and to the original SS comment. They arent much more special than a z28. There are no numbers on the tranny heads or rear to match it to the car. The block SUPPOSEDLY has the vin etched into it on the pass side but I've never seen it.

yeah it's really stupid imho, I agree with your statement about me lol. I used to sell cars and people came in and did the same thing. What I may end up doing is using a family car from across town until i'm working. Maybe not working and having a broken car is creating some paranoia. I don't want to get rid I of the SS, it's super fun. And it has been here since like 2005 pertty much reliably so it feels like ripping off an arm with an infected fingernail.

I also say swap in a junkyard motor. Take whatever parts you need to get it driveable from your current engine. Sell the rest of it - block, crank, covers, intake, etc. You will have it back on the road for literally a couple hundred bucks when it is all said and done.
And Jake I have 3 car seats in my 3.8 camaro that I drive daily...not as fun as the Z28, but it gets me around and pulls 30 to 31 mpg.
