I bought a holley retrofit pan for my swap and as im placing the the new pickup into the pump it will not fit! there is no gasket left in the pump I placed the new gasket on the lip that is made for it to sit on then I placed the pickup in the pump and it will not slide past the gasket the old pickup pulled out like butter, and the new parts had new oil for lube on them. not sure whats going on?

Hopefully you have the engine out of a car because that makes it much easier...sometimes you have to massage the pickup to line up with the pump...I've had this issue when doing it on an fbody while in the car with the pan only dropped a few inches...just keep trying and as long as you can get a couple hand turn of the threads of the pickup tube it will suck the pickup into the pump...lube is def your friend to avoid pinching the oring

The o-ring goes above the lip of the pickup tube, not under it or around it.

Slide the oring on the tube a little and then install the tube.
