Default Cam clearance question

Should there be clearance between the face of the retainer plate and the cam gear? If so, how much? I have none, i could even get my smallest feeler gauge behind it.

how does the cam feel? does it bind up at all through rotation? what size feeler gauge were you trying?

if it doesn't bind up or do anything that would suggest physical interference you should be ok.

Normal should be around 0.010". I wouldn't be comfortable with much less than that.

That's camshaft end play. You should see at least .003".

Best way to check is with a dial indicator on the cam gear. Push the cam back and forth and measure the amount of play.
