You save a couple of dollars buying cam kits, but it's better to talk to a vendor and get a kit with the components you want. The standard off the shelf stuff is generally acceptable, but most places will work with you to get exactly what you want.

The other option is to shop around for each component. Most places have everything but not at the best prices. Willing to shop around will save you money, especially if you order from places that offer free shipping.

Depends. Are you knowledgeable enough to be comfortable with selecting valve train parts to work together or would you prefer taking the advice of a performance shop?

Most shops have a pretty good knowledge of who's springs will work with different lobes. All of the PRC valve springs spend a lot of time in testing on spintron machines to make sure our valvetrain components work properly together.

That's good info and that's why I asked the question. That is very good to know. So prc is a good company to get a kit from?

I am not some master builder but I just bought a cam kit from texas speed they are great to work with and I wanted to piece things together to maybe save a little money but really it is not that much, if you want to buy brand new just buy the kit then you know everything will work together.

Same cam kits are excellent while others are crap. PRC parts are a house brand sold by Texas Speed. I've bought lots of stuff from Texas Speed and they are good. But, if I were in the market for a cam kit right now, I'd get it from Tick Performance.
