Default Port/polish and deck work on 241/243 heads on stock internal '00 ls1?

A friend of mine does cylinder head work (does very good work, worked under Darrin Morgan) and offered to do a little head work for me over the winter. I want to see what I can get the car to run on the stock cam, and was curious how far I could go with having the heads done (again either my stock 241s or i could source a set of 243/799 heads) without sacrificing low end power or creating a dog of a motor by having the stock cam that can't flow what the heads would be capable of. As of now I'm still on the ls1 intake, but this winter it's going to be swapped for either a bbk unit or ls6, along with a p&p throttle body and a tune and whatever other bolt ons would be left. My goal is to trap 112+ and crack a very low 12 second et on the stock cam. The DA here is usually around 2300-2600. Thanks for any input.

You can use the 241's, this is what i would have done to it:
1- Valve job
2- Fill in chambers to obtain desired cc; to increase compression
3- massaging of ports (without hogging them out to maintain/increase velocity)

Have him shape the guide bosses, remove the rocker boss in the intake runner, remove casting flash (or completely sand them but leave the intakes rough), then blend the ports to a good valve job. And as Predator said you can either fill the chambers some for compression or give them a slight mill.

Like said above ypu dont neef 243/799 casting... you can make your 241 heads flow great with some work.

Im running my original 241s that came on my 04 gto ony 408 stroker and have no complaints at all. Ported, welded/ reworked chambers blended ports and valve job. Sitting at 57cc chambers with unshrouded valves.

Thanks for the input guys. My biggest concern was knowing what not to do to keep air velocity up so that it didn't become a dog down low.

Nice work and even better pics.

Engine **** haha. Mine don't look very pretty but they seem to be working very well, between them and a different cam I went from 12.2s to 11.6s with the mild work mentioned above, didn't even grind down the exhaust bosses:
