Difference between 243 & 799 heads
#5
I don't think 243 heads automatically have the sodium valves though. I have seen a stock L33 in a 2012 Silverado with 243 heads and I believe the LS2 GTOs got 243s with solid valves as well.

The casting process for the 243s/241s is different than the 799s. In stock form, the 799s are a rougher cast (sand casted), flow less, and make less hp. In CNC ported form, they are the same.
Only the Z06 and the CSTV got the light weight sodium valves.

799 heads are late model casting that used the same SPM (semi permanent mold) method, at least my 2005 L33 799 castings were, they have the same triangle casting marks as the 2004 LS2 head castings I got...I had to clean up the slag in the 243s vs the 799s I didn't have to touch, but I guess that's like anything other part that uses a factory manufacturing process, some better than others even with the SPM method compared to the sand cast ones, you will have that

Thank you all for your reply I knew most 799s were on trucks while the 243s were on ls1s I have a 2000 and just purchased a set of 799s for super cheap so wanted to make sure there was no difference

Haha yes down. I have heard there are thinner head gaskets that we can run as well which would increase quench and decrease the likelihood of detonation... Would that not be better than a full mill?
