Default ls1 block repair clutch gernaded

[/IMG]well the worst has happened, my clutch let go at about 6800 rpm and all hell broke lose. The presser plate almost escaped from my quick time bell housing, thank god it did not! but in the proses it broke my trans off of my block cracking all of the mount holes. ripping the starter off of the block and took a chunk with it. the big problem here is that i have darton sleeves in this block so that is 1400 in machine work alone! can this be fixed? is there any shops out there fixing these?

If it broke all the mounting holes for the bell? I would cut your losses....

That hurts just looking at it. I wonder if the same carnage to the block would have occurred if it was an iron block. Was it a GM clutch or an aftermarket?

Holy ****...I'd cut you your losses...even the best weld job won't be as strong as it was originally...could prob sell the block to someone who wants to salvage the sleeves or just bite bullet and get a new block and re use sleeves, if that's even possible

Probably not as bad, but iron isn't bullet proof either. It def would have cracked the block.

What kind of clutch/flywheel? You just don't hear of this type of catastrophic failure very often.

older speck stage 3 in second gear went sideways in 1st grabbed second and thought the tires were spinning like they always do, nope bang then the lovely sound of a drive shaft in a safety loop. I am going to fix the block the is not a lot of load on holding them together because all of the force is rotational also i am going to add 2-3 mounts.

You say your are going to try and fix it? I would like to see the final product.

I'm kind of curious to know what went wrong. I don't think you will much success with the repair.

I want to see more pics!!!! Is your engine forged or something??? You can definitely get a stock short block for quite less than $3K

Hell I just saw a complete LS2 on PT.com for $4k OBO

I just don't see how you are going to weld that block up and have the same strength as before plus alignment issue if you don't get the holes lined up perfect.
