Default LS6 Yellows on 241 heads

I had a shop do a valve job and clean my heads last year. They put two piece valve seals on and they ended up leaking (seals were sitting at the too if the stems) on me less than a year later. I pulled the springs and replaced them with one piece seals. When I took off the springs I noticed shims on of the seats. I don't remember them being there before so when I put the new ones on I removed the shims. I believe the one and two piece seats measure different so maybe that's why he shimmed? Any thoughts? Should I have any issues here using all stock GM parts?

The valvejob could have sunk the valve a little, increasing the installed height. That's probably why they were shimmed.

I am not familiar with two piece seals but a difference in the thickness of the steel washer portion of the seal that contacts the spring could require shims. If the shop ground your valves and/or valve seats, the length of your valve stem coming out towards the rocker arm is longer, therefore shims are installed to make the installed height of the valve spring proper. I've seen some shops take an average installed spring height and use the same shim for all the valves, but they really should measure each spring individually and shim accordingly. This means the shims may be of varying thickness, and if so you need to put them back where they were. If they are all the same thickness, then it does not matter. Hope that helps.

Thanks guys, that helped a lot. I will contact the shop and see if he remembers specifics/has any paperwork on it. I didn't think about the valve job changing the height. Good info.

They all appear to be the same but without knowing for a fact I don't want to risk putting them back on in the wrong places.

I would opt for comp 918's or pac 1218's for cheap insurance no doubt.

Depends on the RPM, but I have a guy running them on a heavy 2.02" valve and either an LS6 or LS9 cam. Certainly not what I would recommend, but it seems to have worked out so far.

I've had this setup since 2010 and about 50,000 miles. I can't guarantee I don't have valve float or any issues at high rpm but I do take it to 6600 at WOT pretty frequently (several times a week since I've had it)
