What is the head casting number, and the block casting number, head casting number is located on the bottom right side of each head under the valve cover. Block casting number is located on the backside of the block under the driver side cylinder head.

If the casting number 706 is on the corner of the head then that means that the motor is most likely a 5.3l

Going by the head casting, it's an early 4.8l/5.3l for sure. Dished pistons are 5.3l. Flat tops are 4.8l.

It has the old style of intake cover so its either 99-00. Look at the right rear corner of the block and it will have either 6.0 or 4.8/5.3 cast into it. Some SUVs were equipped with DBW before 03 but had that vette style of throttle body.
And if it was a 6.0 in 99-00, it would have iron heads. It's either a 4.8/5.3. Pull a spark plug and see if it has dished or flat tops. Dished= 5.3. Flat=4.8

Would it be good to swap this in a foxbody? or better off looking for a ls1 or another vortec engine?
