Default Lifters & adjustment

Okay im having issues with lifters going bad. I have non adjustable harland sharp rockers. So when you find zero lash & just begin to feel resistance on the pushrod its another 1 1/2 turns till the bolt bottoms out & you tighten it to 22ftp. Harland sharp says it should only be 1 full turn past zero lash when the bolt bottoms out. So my question is, is the additional 1/2 turn to tight & making my lifters wear out prematurely?

What is failing in the lifters? 1 1/2 turns is fine, anything from 1/8 the turn to 1 3/4 is fine.

Not sure exactly. I missed a gear a month or so ago & it floated the valves. Didnt mess up right away. Their just ticking more than usual. & lost alot of power & runs ruff. Also pops out the exhaust when i shift. Im pretty sure its from me missing a gear, i didnt think 1 1/2 past zero lash was to tight. I just need to learn to put it in the right gear lol

Have you pulled valve covers yet? Bent pushrod, broken spring(s), broken rocker arm...

Ive had all the rockers lose & readjusted them. From visual the springs looked okay & the push rods looked good also. Im gonna pull all push rods tomorrow & check them. How can i tell if its the lifters or the springs? Without pulling the heads off & taking them apart to check each spring?

If you missed a shift and the car is noisy now and wasn't before, it is not an adjustment issue. Something was damaged. Check pushrods first, move on from there. With an over rev if the lifters are damaged the cam lobes may be damaged as well.

Spot on.

OP, you probably already know this, but even a 5/16 .080 wall hardened PR can bend. Roll them on glass or the like and see if any of them are indeed bent.
