Default cam

well with any cam you really need to step up the springs in my opinion. but you can go up to about a 220 dur and .565 lift with out a stall. granted its better with a stall but do able with out. you also are needing a 112 lsa or less to get that sound your after. the lsa plays a great deal in the sound, because lower lsa creates more overlap as compared to a larger lsa with the same lift and dur...

There is only 1 cam that fits all of the things you already listed. It takes no time to install and is free. The cam I would be mentioning is the stock cam. There is no cam that I would put in a car that didn't require all the things you just mentioned aside from the stock torque converter. If it is a tame street car you can stay with the stock torque converter, although most people on here will tell you that you need a large stall. The stock torque converter does limit your choices in camshaft in terms of driving manners.

The down side: You'll still need at least better valve springs, and the power will peak well before the stock cam will and it also sound stock.

The plus side: That cam would work with the stock stall, it'll have good low end power if you want to tow a trailer or boat!

IMO, regardless of what performance/aftermarket cam you go with you'll at least need valve springs, since even on the very small cams the ramp rates on the lobes will be to aggressive for the stock springs to control. So if you want to really be happy with you cam choice you'll need the supporting modifications to.

IMO, if your engine has been well taken care of and the mileage isn't really high you can stick with the stock lifters. For springs get a set of PAC 1218 valve springs(about$120).
You're also going to need a tune, and possibly pushrods. I'd also highly recommend a higher stall TC (2800-3200), for optimum performance and drivability.

This cam would be okay http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...csid=1085&sb=0

You don't need a big stall, just a decent tune.

+1 for a hot cam, and as said before i would never suggest changing the cam and not changing the springs, retainers, pushrods, timing chain and oil pump if you dont have the money for those things dont do it at all just for peace of mind dont skimp out on parts
