Default Which Valve Springs for new Cam

I have a 226/234 598/601 on a 113 lsa cam I'm installing in my 99 camaro. I know I need dual springs. Can anyone recommend a good size/pressure for the swap? I want to be safe. I'm trying to keep this relatively simple. Thanks.

You don't NEED dual springs but I also have no intention to create a debate. Buy dual if you want to but IMO PAC 1519 are beehive springs that would work incredibly well. Do your research, call PAC or any other manufacturer you trust. Good luck with your build!

PAC 1518 is a good option if you want a direct swap single spring.

At what point would you need the titanium retainers over the steel ones

Titanium retainers will buy you about 200-300 RPM over steel retainers before instability sets in. They also wear faster.

The cam ramp speed will have more impact where the valve train becomes unstable than anything else, but I prefer to look at the total valve weight when someone is contemplating between steel and titanium retainers.

For example the BTR steel retainers with stock locks are the same weight as the old Patriot titanium retainers with their super 7 locks, so the BTR steel retainers are very light. As much as 5 grams lighter than our competitors steel retainers, check out pictures #4 & 5 at this link. http://www.briantooleyracing.com/660...retainers.html

The BTR titanium retainers are another 5 grams lighter than the BTR steel retainers.

Stock LS1 or LS2 intake valve weight is around 100 grams. An aftermarket valve will generally weigh 110-115 grams. A stock hollow stem LS3 intake valve only weighs 89 grams. It's easier to run the steel retainers on LS1, LS2 or especially LS3 valves compared to aftermarket valves.

A stock LS1 intake valve with the BTR steel retainers is going to be 5-10 grams lighter than aftermarket valves with titanium retainers.

I hope this helps!

For double spring applications, BTR is all we use now. For the money you can't beat them.

For a beehive spring application, accept no substitutes and use the PSI 1511ML spring.

Sounds like the steel btr is all that is needed, would want something strong but last a long time as well
