Default 383 build options

hello,

just looking for some different opinions on some build options for my 02 firehawk. i have been reading about some different stroker options and thinking i want to go that route. problem i am having is do i keep my #s matching block and be slightly limited or do i sell what i have and go the lq4/9 route?

i know for alot of the old muscle cars #s matching is huge... while my car isnt old yet i dont wanna be kicking myself later for changing blocks. plus car already had rear axle swapped for moser 9in when i bought it, not sure if that makes huge difference or not.

thanks for any opinions

It all really depends on your budget and what you'd like to see the car do. Nice bird btw.

thanks... i am not worried about the budget part of it so much . i am just worried i might hurt any possible future value of the firehawk by putting a different block in it.

I have tossed that idea around some. But i dont think i have the space or could stand storing a motor for years.

I think I have decided to keep my block and stroke it out to a 383. I was thinking I would use a lunati rotating assembly with either Mahle pistons or CP-carrillo pistons... Thinking it should be around 10.6 to 11-1 compression ratio depending on which pistons i go with. Was also going to get ahold of ESP to get a good camshaft spec'd.

It is not a daily driver mostly just a weekend cruiser with trip to track once or twice a year.

Just looking to see if that sounds like a good setup? car is m6, it has 241 heads and ls6 intake that were both ported by lingenfelter, tsp 1-7/8 headers

Thanks for any advice

Thanks for the response. I have tossed around fast intake idea.
one of the big questions I am trying to decide is which piston I should go with... the kits I am looking at have either a CP-Carrillo Forged -2.7cc Flat Top Piston, 11.0-1 or a Mahle PowerPak Dish Pistons -6cc, 10.6-1

check out Texas Speed for rotating assemblies or short blocks .what do the heads flow ?a ls6 intake with mild ported heads will hold back the power of a 383 .consider just a fast intake with a good cam ,using your current short block .

The more compression the better. Up to a certain point of course

I'm finishing up my 383 project as we speak, Lunati Voodoo 4" crank, Crower rods and Mahle pistons. I sent my pistons and rods off to Texas speed and the balanced the rotating assembly and installed the Reluctor ring, on the Crank I bought from them. The reluctor ring isn't pre installed on the Lunati crank. I would shoot for 11:1 compression. Get a small (-cc) valve relief flat to piston. The valve relief will also allow for better cam choices for 383ci and aid in Piston to Valve clearance issues.

I just ordered my cam from EPS. I went with what they suggested which was a 234/246. He also said i should be shooting for around 11:1 CR

That compression is decent. What's the lift and LSA on that cam?

You going to keep with the stock ported heads or go upgrade? Take a look at TFS.

Intake Duration: 234 Degrees at .050" Tappet Lift.
Intake Lift: .602" with 1.7 rockers.
Exhaust Duration 246 Degrees at .050" Tappet Lift
Exhaust Lift .607" with 1.7 rockers.
111 Degree LSA

Planning on keeping the ported heads and see how they do. But never know, I may get bored again next year.

It should do pretty good with that setup, but ported stock heads will holding that 383 back a bit
