Default cam bearing check

I did a lq4/4l80e swap into a 71 nova I had an o-ring issue with oil pressure when I first got my lq4 back together after a cam and head change . I wound up changing oil pump and and o-ring. now I am getting a grey almost aluminum metallic color to my oil I have changed oil/filter it twice since and still cant get rid of it. from what I'm reading it sounds like a cam bearing issue because now when it gets to operating temp it has only 10lbs at idle and between 25-45 running. can I just pull intake and valley cover off to check cam bearings to see if they walked ?

No access to the cam via the valley.

Id be worried about the bottom end also, sounds like you have bearing material in your oil and that is never a good sign.

I don't trust this setup anymore so I'm going to be pulling it and tearing it down . doe anybody have any idea of what a machine shop would charge to change all of the bearings ? so I can start fresh .

I have changed cam and heads in regular small blocks numerous times without an issue I even put together a complete motor that held together @ 7500rpm shifts but now I'm gun shy on doing this myself

A machine shop usually gets about 75-100 bucks to change out the cam
bearings, but in your case now every single galley plug needs to be removed
and the block should be boiled (pressure washed) to get the bearing matter
oil out of it. So with all new bearings, gaskets, rings(fresh hone)...even doin'
the assemble yourself is probably gonna get up in the 7-900 range pretty
quickly.
