Default Horizontal Score In Cylinder Wall??

Just pull the heads off my 80K LQ4. Purchased engine over a year ago and it has sat until this point. I've never fired the engine so I don't know what compression was prior. I can definitely feel the score when I run my finger nail through it but it doesn't "Catch". All the other cylinders look good with cross thatches visible.

I normally have seen vertical scratches. Any idea what would cause this?Should I take this to a machine shop to look over?

How does it not catch? That's deep! Even on my iPhone..

Was the spark plug on that cylinder missing a tip?

Could have been some moisture sitting on the ring, w/ the piston parked at that location....

Spark plug is fine. Maybe I'm doing the finger nail test incorrectly? I can definitely feel it with the fingernail but it doesn't stop my fingernail when I run through it. Maybe I'm in denial and just muscling through it LOL.

Should I be not as concerned since the scratch is horizontal and not vertical?

I'm going take this thing to the shop to look it over. I didn't want the extra expenses as I'm already over budget on this build

2nd this, looks like a little bit of moisture. run it if you dont want to waste money on a complete rebuild.

I would run It also. Do a compression test and you will fell a lot better. Its horizontal and not too high.

I remember a magazine article where they boosted a 5.3 to over 1300 hp and it was a jy engine w one of the cylinders having a pretty bad rust patch in the cylinder they couldnt get out. point being, wont last forever like that but also will run for a while and effect performance to much

Thanks Guys. I think I will just button it up and see what happens. At the very least I want to get the car running and off to the bodyshop. If I don't lose compression then its a plus.

I'd put 150# of shop air in that cylinder and watch the radiator for air bubbles. Looks deep enough to be a crack to me...
