Engine builders come in, have some q's
i just put together a 395 ls6 and had an oil pressure problem. when we pulled the thing apart we found that the front 2 cam bearings had not spun but just walked out of the bores, uncovering the oil galleys. on startup i had 70 psi oil pressure, then after about 50 miles it just jumped to 50psi, then after another 100 miles went to 40psi. it is common to pin the cam bearings in aluminum blocks and was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or does this in their motors.

The cam bearings are different sizes for each journal..could be two swapped bearings in the wrong bores, or just a fluke..I would not pin them, just stake them with a chisel (like a freeze plug) but make sure it doesnt interfere with the bearing surface..it is very tricky but if done properly will hold those suckers tight...but like i said be carefull not to stake them so hard it flares and interferes with the bearing surface.

I was noticing on mine today, the cam bearings behind #1 are centered in their bores (which are quite a bit wider than the bearing). But the cam bearing in #1 is almost all the way to the front. Possibly if your #1 was installed centered in its bore, then it was off center on the cam journal, which could have walked it out the back side....
