Lightbulb Cometic .060 Gasket for 5.3 L33 Build?

Hey all,

Just got my short block back from the machine shop. It needed to be decked and now I have the pistons coming out of the hole around .018-.020 on average.

I want to run the .060 Cometic gaskets to get a proper quench distance of .035-.040, so my question is this...

Will the C5475-060 gaskets with the 3.910" bore be the ones I need to get?

Also,
I have read of some people having sealing issues with these. From what I can gather the surface of the heads and block need to be at a smoothness of 50ra or better. Both my heads and block are fresh from the shop and look good.

What does a surface finish of 50ra's look like? I have nothing to compare to...

Also, would you all recommend a light dusting of the copper spray to the gaskets even though Cometic says to install dry?

I have read of people installing them both ways...

Thanks for any help or insight!

If the deck and heads are fresh from the shop then install the cometics dry.. 3.910 bore will work fine

^I agree. Make sure your deck surface, and head surface is clean and then install the gaskets dry. Those particular Cometic gaskets should work fine for your application.

Dry install. Only use the copper spray when installing heads on a used shortblock.

Thanks Guys. One other question... I need to torque these to check PTV once I get my cam in, I can reuse these dry as long as the engine hasn't been fired, correct?
