Default LS1 Valvetrain Tick once warm

So the valvetrain is a Crane cam .600 lift 228/232, Comp R lifters, 7.450 3/8 hardened pushrods with Harland Sharp trunion upgrade. Bought the car with this setup on it and once it gets warm you can hear an audible tick that with the stethoscope seems to be coming from cylinder 1, So I put cylinder one at TDC and removed the coil pack, valve cover and began to check lifter preload with a dial indicator. set number intake at Zero lash, Zeroed out the dial indicator and found number 1 intake to be .035". Tried the same on the exhaust however when I tighten down the rocker, the valvespring compresses a tenth of an inch, not the lifter. Seems the lifter isn't allowing any travel. Has anyone seen this before?

Not sure what you mean by "set to zero lash"....to properly check the preload, you should get an adjustable pushrod.

As for the lifter not bleeding down, it takes time for it to bleed down, that's why you see movement at the valve tip.

can also be done with a dial indicator and a known length pushrod, adjustable pushrod is just easier you would unscrew the adjustable rod until the rocker has no play...zero lash and add the desired preload to the length you get...

So what you are saying is the intake lifter doesn't hold but the exhaust lifter does? Normally the lifters should hold a bit before bleeding off. Betcha the intake lifter has a speck of dirt in it holding the check valve open.

Thatsa gonna makit tickin sound<
