Default Locked up my engine today, need idea's (sponsors inside please)...

Ever since the dyno my car has been acting funny and running a little strange, would sometimes buck and surge coming to a stop and cut out, then would barely idle. I changed the MAF thinking that's what was causing it because I had put a ported one on. Well I took it to the track today and after the 2nd pass it did this again, and would barely idle. Being stupid I took it down one more time thinking it was something to do with the VE tables I had modified for the idle. Well at about 6800rpm's in 2nd it let loose, no oil or smoke anywhere. Try to turn it over and it clunked over then locked up. Now my question is who's good and bad for forged shortblocks, and what would be better, I can pick up my friends used (30k mile) shortblock, replace the rods and pistons with a forged set or I could get an all forged stroker motor. I haven't priced this stuff yet so if the sponsors would chime in and anyone else that might have some input as to where to go from here. Thanks all,

-Sly

Sounds like you spun a bearing and it locked up and broke a connecting rod. Hows the oil level? Thats what you get for revving the stock motor to 7000!

I think I had a problem to begin with, ever since I broke two rockers back when I had my other heads on I have had a loud knocking sound on cold startups that went really faint once warm. I'm guessing this to be the culprit, when spinning the engine to 7000rpm's you better ensure that everything is sound.

Got it Terry, I think that plan may be the way to go and that 408 should work nicely with your Stage 3 ls6 heads I have right now however I think I'll need a bigger cam for that engine. Think you can hook me up on that if I send you my old one in trade or part trade? It's a 230/236 .592/.578 on a 114lsa +2

I was going to change the oil today before I went but decided to wait until I got back. Glad I did I would have wasted $45

Default Sorry to hear this Sly

Man, you've had some luck this weekend. Nice meeting you @ car show Saturday. Hope all works out for you. I haven't started doing anything to my car yet - it's still stock; just some help with a few things from LdyRdHwk. Don't really have the dough to put into it right now. Oh, well, I'll just hope for the near future. I'm looking at a cam now (thanks to LRH). After hearing all your cars this weekend, well, just gotta have that cam! Good luck again. Rotors & tires will be my first project!

You had a piston let go. Same thing happened to me with same result. Had to replace everything but front and rear cover and oil pan. Not a cheap thing to do. Good luck with the new engine. APE is a good idea.

strokedls1- What company did you go with for your new setup and how do you like it? Is it worth it to go for the stroker or just stay with the stock cubes but forged, in your opinion. How does it feel driving it around town at normal throttle?

Man that sucks, but it looks like now you have a good reason to move on to bigger and better things, it looks like it would also be a good time to start on your turbo setup. Good luck with it.

Oil out of the tb, not a good sign. But something good will come about. Let me know when I can lend a hand. Will be in touch.
