Default Head work suggestions.

Suggestions- 00" silverado 5.3. Comp cam 222/224 .566/.568 @ .50, beehive springs, chormoly push rods, stock intake.
I was wondering if I could mill the heads, or port and polish them if this would gain me anything. I still want to have good low end torque.

probably a good valve job will be the most bang for the buck. You can send them out to get CNC ported if you have the $$$

Why not contact one of the site sponsor for your specific needs?

If you want to work with the factory 5.3L castings Richard at WCCH has an affordable option that works well for a truck set up to maintain the low end tourque. http://www.proheads.com/pricing.html

I believe TEA also does the 5.3L heads. http://www.totalengineairflow.com/cu...gm-2/5-3-gm-ls

They apply 3 different angles to the valve were it seats in the head seat to smooth the transition to help with air flow.

Every little bit helps.

If you want to gain the most from it do a basic bowl blend and get a good valve job. The bowl is something most people can clean up themselves.

You maximise the flow in this area by removing restrictions and sharp edges like were the seat meets the bowel. These cause airflow restrictions.

Read up on Porting. AGearHead4Life has some youtube video's on porting your own heads. He also has a DIY thread on here.

Most of the power achieved is actually from the valve job. The port just enhances the valve job by allowing optimal airflow...

I would go with a proven CNC port/valve job combo from TEA, AI, WCCH, or hand porting from Chris Frank, Greg Good, or Larry Meaux. Any of those companies/individuals can set your heads up for you to work very well.

Local shops haven't spent the R&D to develop the ports and valve jobs the bigger LS shops have done and don't have the proven results. In the end, the price difference isn't much, but the results can be very different.

Speaking of that.

What I personally like about Richard @ WCCH is that his 5.3L head package was designed around a truck motor and driveability were as some other heads are geared around larger displacement engines or the power made near top end of the RPM range.

Stock 5.3 heads do not flow well. Whoever told you that lied to you.
