Default Ls6 springs

I bought a set of 19k mile ls2 243 heads with yellow valve springs on them. Im considering skipping the valve job that I had planned on getting, since the milage is so low. I also have a new set of blue GM springs and seals, that I planned to run with the 2002 LS6 cam.

Are these yellow springs the same as the blue ones?

And is it safe to skip the valve job?

I'd be interested to know a knowledgable opinion too, i'm 243 shopping and they seems to be a wide range of them from new to grungy.

Yellow have had a history of breaking, replace them with your new blue ones.

All the research I've done shows that they are the same exact part.

they technically are, they share the same specs from gm an are just painted different colors. however back in the early 2000's gm had issues with their yellow batch of springs and QC, the springs were breaking and taking out motors hence why vettenuts said to swap them with the new updated ones.

pour some fluid down all the head ports ,and check for any leaks around the valves.

if your doing all the work of changing heads & cam consider porting those heads with better springs & a slightly bigger cam. trust me im running that setup except i have stage 1 ported heads. the positive runs & drives smooth as stock. negative no lope sound & not impressive dyno #'s. ls6 springs are only good to 570 lift so i wish i had added better springs. if thats all your budget allows then fine. cheers just trying to help.

As faras the valve job goes, you probably don't need it. Lap them in and look at the mating surface with a magnifier. If get a nice even band around the valve and seat, you're golden.

Valve springs are a disposable item. If they're in the least bit suspect, toss 'em. Invest in a valve spring checker and micrometer, they're cheap and extremely valuable.
