Default What budget rockers to get with 243 heads?

I was wanting to know what rockers I need to get with my 243 heads? I have 1.8 pushrods, and dual valve springs. It's on a 230/232 112 cam with a fast 90 intake. I'm on a little bit of a budget but I don't want cheap ones. I've already broken 2 stock rockers so I need decent one.

How much open spring pressure are you running?

Do you know what valve springs you are running? How much lift on the cam? What is a 1.8 pushrod? Do you know why you are breaking stock rockers?

There are a lot of high horsepower cars on here running stock rockers with the trunion upgrade. I was also scratching my head on the 1.8 pushrod.

Again no. I bought the cam and springs from a friend. I'm sorry my pushrods are 1.740 I think, I'm having trouble remembering. Those are probably factors you have to know huh...like I said this is my first ls1 and my first motor to be building.

The 243s used the same rockers as 853s, 241s etc (1.7 ratio)...The stock rocker body is light and strong as well, just the stock trunions/bearings can spill. I would consider upgrading the trunions and bearings with the BTR kit or comp cams, as other have stated there are plenty of high powered builds using them. I would be interested to know the dual valve springs you are running and the open spring pressure. They may be too much for stock rockers. I would measure for correct pushrod length with pushrod checker as well and order the correct pushrods for desired pre-load.

The stock rockers are considered the "budget" rocker. They are pretty stout, and although folks move to other rockers to improve geometry the alternatives that have brute strength equal to the stockers are expensive. So if you change rockers, there is a good chance you will break them too. You need to identify the problem you are trying to solve.

what are you running that you're breaking stock rockers?sound like maybe a faulty set or improper setup. Stock ones are pretty damn tough especially with a trunion upgrade. If your valvetrain is nasty enough to break stockers then i dont think "budget" is in your future

Sorry again guys. They are 7.4 pushrods. I don't know anything about the springs, they are used ones I got with my cam. The specs to the cam were right, I just don't know the lift...

The cam specs you provided suggest a cam that is ordinary as opposed to extreme. I would pull some of the valve springs and determine the spring pressures. I would measure the lift. I suspect the springs are more than you need.

Without knowing your skill level, and assuming that you are asking how to pull the valve springs without pulling the heads, I would start by visiting ls1howto(dot)com. They have illustrated examples.

No I installed the springs while the heads were on the motor. I don't know how to determine spring pressure or measure the lift..
