No the heads are fine, just need to be cleaned up and I'm going to have the valves replaced in that cylinder. Also going to have the valves enlarged to 2.08 for the new setup.

I'm not sure what happened yet, I haven't had the time to finish pulling the engine apart but as you said I'm pretty sure a rod let go. I'll post more pics after I get deaper into it.

What were you doing when it happened? Any power adders? It looks pretty obvious that the rod let go on the intake stroke. Looks like it was a hell of a shot, but the valves don't llok to be messed up as bad as some other contacts I've seen. Lucky you.

check this out... I just pulled the other head and found the same thing with the adjacent piston. Took my fist and could push both of them down all the way to the bottom of the bore, thing that sucks is I dropped my damn digital cam taking pics of the other side, now it doesn't work grrrr..... just keeps getting worse.

A rod bolt may have been the first thing to let go.I have seen a few stock LS1 rod bolts break.

Quite possible, I pulled the valley cover and found a few more chunks of metal in there as well. Terry, the other head looks the same, 1 of the valves is definately bent, shouldn't be a big deal to replace the valves in those cylinders and check the guides, also do you still recommend we go to the 2.08 valve for this new setup? The piston did contact the head in the 2 cylinders that failed but the damage is real minimal, should be able to clean it up in the process of opening up the chambers a bit for the new setup.
