Default Who in here has used the metal rods from Home Depot to do your cam swap?

I am going to go this route, but not sure if it is 5/16 or 3/8 rods? Also, does it have to be D shaped or with the round ones work?

NEVER USE WOOD!!!!!! Always a small chance of breaking and loosing a piece in the motor, now all of a sudden your simple cam swap turns into a huge un-needed project.
Anyway, I used 5-16 aluminum rod from home depot, no problems. good luck.

Hi,

I wasted my money on the "Tool", I REALLY wished I would have just gotten some aluminum rod afterwards. I could have bought a lot of beer with that money.

Yes, round rod. I tried both the 5/16 rod and the 3/16 with velcro wrapped around it. The 5/16 worked perfect on the drivers side but for some reason it got hung up on the passenger side. So I slid in the 3/16 with velcro and it worked great.

the wood 5/16 rod is not tight enough to put shavings in the motor.i pushed and pulled them in and out several times and they were perfect.

I used them. Although mine were 1/4 inch. They were a little on the loose side so next time I'll use the 5/16's. Even though the rods were in, I didn't even let 15 seconds pass from when I completely took out the stock cam to when I started sliding in the new cam.

I had the same issue of the passengers side rod only going in about half way before getting stuck. Drivers side worked perfectly.
