Thumbs down I take the key out, CAR WON'T SHUT DOWN!!!

Ugh... Well, this is interesting.

So, I have the car detailed today, drive it back to the office, turn the key to the OFF position, pull it out...

AND THE @#$\ING MOTOR IS STILL RUNNING!!!!

...no, I'm not kidding.

So I play with it a little. Volt Meter drops when the key is removed, so it appears to be shutting down power from the Alternator and going to the battery. I can't put it in gear with the key out, AC does not work, so it's like everything EXCEPT the piece that tells the computer it can stop now is working as expected.

...It's also doing it only after driving it for a while. I can turn it on and right back off if it's cold.

I got it shut down by pulling the fuel pump fuse, and once the engine stops, the rest of the system does die, and the car is totally shut down. I'm HOPING the detailers got some water where it shouldn't be, and it'll dry out... it's TOO coincidental that this happend after I had it detailed today.

...anyone else ever heard of this? Any ideas? Help.

Almost forgot, it's a 2000 Z28.

That's uhhh..wacked. I assume we're not talking about dieseling, we're talking about normal smooth idle and all right?

Our cars wouldnt do that since the timing is computer controlled.

Yeah.. Not diesling... it's like... Running GREAT! If I could get it in gear, I could go run the quarter.

I'm telling you, this is REALLY F-ed up.

Yes but obviously the computer isn't turning off like it should.

I seriously have no idea. Let the car sit and dry out overnight and see how it is tomorrow?

Thats odd... I agree, set-up a fan in your engine bay and maybe take out some connections and blow them out. And if it happens again, I think a better idea would be to just stall the motor. Safer maybe, something about stopping the fuel pump while its running doesn't seem like a hot idea, maybe it's just me.

Thanks for all the input guys... It turned out to be my fan switch. They had flipped it on when detailing the car, and I hadn't noticed it. It only happened when hot... Somehow, the fans coming on during normal operation created a situation with the Fan switch that made the PCM think it shouldn't shut down. I'm workin' great now! Thanks!
